fishing tackle

Are you planning on going fishing for the first time? If you are, then you have walked into any tackle shop or read through a fishing magazine and confused the hell out of yourself. There are thousands of types of fishing tackle you can buy, for all types of fishing, for many different places and it can get a bit overwhelming!

The rod is one of the most important parts of fishing tackle that you can buy. Without one, there is no fishing. A good sized rod will be about 12 or 13 feet in length and should be made from carbon fibre. This will ensure it is durable, and it is long enough to cast correctly but not too long as to scare you! Lighter rods are better than heavier rods, but obviously, the lighter the rod will mean the more expensive, as will better quality rods.

Once you have chosen your rod, the next bit of fishing tackle that you should invest in, is a reel. Generally, rules will come that can be adapted to suit both right and left handed people. It should be of a light weight and preferably with an open face. Again, the better the quality, the more money you will be expected to pay. A spare spool is a good thing to keep handy as well!

Line is a rather difficult part of fishing tackle. A 3Ib or 4Ib line would be better, but you need to choose the line that is appropriate for the type of fishing you wish to divulge in, and also the type of fish you are aiming to catch. Lighter lines will not always suit heavier fish and suchlike.

Floats are an important part of fishing tackle. Floats enable you to see where you have cast as well as, (obviously) floating on the top of the water to make sure the line doesn’t go down any further. It is best to talk about floats with an expert that can point you in the right direction.

Next, we shall look at hooks. You could start by using types of hook that come already tied onto hooklength. Again, it may be best to talk to a professional or someone in the fishing tackle shop to ensure that you are using the most suitable hook.

There are a few other essential fishing tackle parts that will help, and one of these is called a plummet. This will help you to work out how deep the water is, and therefore point you in the right direction with regards to floats etc. A net is also important to keep the fish you have caught, as is a disgorger which will help you to get the fish off your hook quickly and without any problems. A rod rest will enable you to keep fishing while you are eating, drinking or just popping to the toilet and a small seat will make the overall trip enjoyable. Standing up for hours on end is never much fun!

So, there you have it, the basics to choosing the right fishing tackle. The best thing you can do is to talk to someone in the shop that knows what they are talking about to further assist you in your fishing mission! Just remember to have fun and enjoy it!

fishing tackle
What is fishing tackle? When I was first asked this question I simply thought it was just the bait. I was wrong. Fishing tackle consists of everything that makes up fishing, be it the fishing pole, the wire, reel and nets. Fishing tackle is constantly changing with new and improved tackles that promise better results from that of previous methods and tools used. This shows that fishing is a progressive sport that is constantly improving.

In the past fishing tackle consisted of just a line and a hook. When one looks at how fishing is carried out today, it is possible to see a great deal of change has occurred. For instance, the fishing poles themselves are becoming lighter and more durable that cope with the strain of the fish, where before the pole may have snapped. Today’s state of the art poles can bend more than 70 degrees and still retain their shape weighing no more than four kilograms. With the development of fishing poles, comes the increase in costs. Fishing poles have a wide price range of anything from twenty pounds to an excess of 6 thousand. The more expensive poles as already discussed are more durable, yet lighter, which add up to the perfect combination of catching the best fish.

Bait, which is also a fishing tackle, has also improved over time. In the case of live bait, red coloured grubs are used instead of grey grubs. It has been found that they attract more fish due to their bright colours. This shows the advancement in fishing tackle with the type of baits used.  With artificial bait, thin brightly coloured fake fish were used in the past that shone and moved in the water, attracting fish. This fishing tackle was improved with the development of lights used as bait. Modern methods of fishing are carried out by placing small LEDs in fish shaped, coloured plastics. This new method of fishing attracts a lot more fish then the pervious methods of artificial bait as the blinking light attracts the fish to the hook. Another positive attribute that artificial baits bring, is that live animals such as small fish or worms do not get harmed. Artificial baits will save you money in the long term as you simply buy them once and that is it. They are also usually cheaper than some live bait such as small fish etc. However they are sometimes more expensive then grubs and maggots.

With the development of the internet fishing, tackle has become much cheaper to buy online and from my own personal experience it would be wise to make an investment online rather than go to a shop, unless you are a beginner of course.

By using different fishing tackles and different fishing techniques it is possible to see that there are many different ways to fish. It is also important to note how fishing tackles have changed over time to become more effective at catching fish. In the future there are endless ways in which fishing tackle can be improved. With the development of sonar’s that detect larger fish (mainly used in sea fishing) and lasers that can catch fish, it is possible for one to see that fishing techniques will be constantly changing in order for it to become easier to catch fish.

fishing tackle
If you’re a beginner in the world of fishing then a quick rundown of the most common types of fishing tackle is an excellent place to begin your education. We will deal with the most common types of fishing tackle; lures, flies, hooks, floats and sinkers. Once we have covered these basic elements you will have a better idea of what is needed to fill up your fishing tackle box.

Lures are the first, and possibly only, thing people think of when they hear the term fishing tackle. Lures are usually intended to imitate the look and movement of real fish. This will accomplish one of two objectives. The fish will either see the lure as food or as a challenge to their territory. Either response is likely to cause the fish to strike. No fishing tackle box would be complete without lures.

Next we come to flies, which are similar in purpose to lures and yet are different enough in the world of fishing tackle to earn separate mention. An entire art form has grown out of the attempts to create flies that will fool a fish into striking. Yes the world of fishing tackle has spawned an art form.

No lure or fly would be useful in your collection of fishing tackle unless they are combined with a hook. Single hooks, triple hooks, barbed or not, a hook is needed on every lure or fly to ensnare and hold the fish.

Finally we come to floats and sinkers. Your fishing tackle is not complete without floats and sinkers which take on a special significance. Experienced fishermen know that different types of fish are best caught at specific depths. The wide variety of floats and sinkers will place your bait at the specific depth most commonly associated with the type of fish you’re trying to catch.

So now you know the most basic elements of fishing tackle. Of course we have only scratched the surface but you do now have the basics of fishing tackle jargon. Let these basics of fishing tackle be your first step on your journey into the wonderful world of fishing.

As you progress you will find more advanced fishing tackle and equipment available on the market. For example a new exciting Remote Control Fishing Lure is very exciting. It is driven and controlled from a controller mounted on the fishing rod handle and can be driven into places where never before accessed by casting traditional lures.

Of course, you cannot talk about fishing tackle without discussing bait. To catch different kinds of fish, you needed to use different kinds of bait. You will also learn that you can’t simply bait the hook and throw it into the water and then just sit there. You will need to use different techniques like how to “jiggle” the bait, cast it out and reel it back in, “drag” the bottom, and numerous other techniques to get the fish to bite.

The best person to talk to about which fishing tackle and which bait to use is the your fishing and bait shop.
